Engraving Tool - Cutting Edge Sharpness
The sharpness of the cutting edge or how keen the cutting edge is has an effect on the appearance of the engraved line. Too sharp of a cutting edge causes the cutting edge to break down quickly.
2L produces a General Purpose Cutter (G) which is designed to engrave the
widest variety of materials. It is capable of engraving harder materials such as
steel and stainless steel as well as softer materials such as aluminum, brass,
copper, and plastic.
2L also produces a Softer Material Cutter (S) which has a keener cutting edge
to engrave softer or gummier materials such as aluminum, brass, copper, and
plastic. It has a sharper cutting edge to reduce the chance of burrs.
Other vendors have taken this “feature” to the extreme and offer numerous levels of sharpness.
Through extensive testing and the use of the finest grade of submicron carbide, 2L has simplified the engraver type selection.
If the
material being engraved is extremely soft, gummy, and prone to creating burrs, use the Softer Material Cutter (S).
